ADDICTION TREATMENT IN MISSION VIEJO AND LAGUNA NIGUEL
WHAT IS ADDICTION?
Drug addiction and alcohol addiction can disrupt the course of one’s life and affect friends and family members around them. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “addiction is a chronic disease characterized by drug seeking and use that is compulsive, or difficult to control, despite harmful consequences.”
Both short term and long term use of drugs or alcohol can lead to addiction, whether it starts from prescribed medication or an occasional weekend activity. For the most part, substance use is a voluntary thing. But as time goes on, repetitive substance use turns into substance abuse.Alcohol and drugs change the brain’s motivations and can cause what is known as substance use disorders. Substance Use Disorder is synonymous to drug addiction, and can have all types of side effects:
- Financial irresponsibility: Addiction can cause people to spend unreasonable amounts of money, often without explanations. Family members or close friends may notice stolen cash or valuables. What’s taken is usually spent on more drugs to continue a habit, but an addict may buy other unnecessary items too. Even gambling irresponsibly can quickly become hugely problematic.
- Health problems: Drugs drain the body’s necessary energy systems and can cause visible weight loss or weight gain. Each drug does so differently, but all can cause physical and mental health problems. These issues are extensive, and long-term drug abusers can develop health hurdles that are difficult to jump.
- Behavioral changes: Substance abuse often starts with a mysterious and secretive lifestyle. As addiction develops, relationship issues can build with family, friends, and spouses. Emotional stability and even mental capacity can change drastically too. And while these changes can be short-lived, but abuse over years can make them tougher to overcome.
- Issues at school or work: Side effects listed above can directly cause problems at school or work. The decreased mental capacity is the obvious issue here, but the emotional instability and behavioral changes can be the breaking point here. A lack of interest in both school or work is typically the initial step downward.

Addiction can be a complex mental health issue, and even those with strong wills or right intentions can fall into it. The first step of beating addiction is to realize you have a problem. It’s common for drug or alcohol abusers to be in denial of their problematic usage, especially in the early stages of one’s addiction.
That denial can make it tough to get an addict to admit themselves into substance abuse treatment. But it is important they do. The longer the cycle of addiction continues, the more the substance use disorder develops. As the disease matures, the odds for relapse (re-use) become increasingly higher as the drug’s mental hold gets stronger.
It’s crucial to prevent relapse. Relapses can restart the abuse for long periods of time, and they can also cause an accidental overdose. A recovering addict should aim to keep the memory of a drug’s high a distant thought.
Here at SoCal Sunrise Recovery Center, we have developed treatment plans for all different types of addictions.
ADDICTION TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Our drug rehabs have treatment options for alcohol, opioids, cocaine, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and more. We provide inpatient detox and inpatient rehabilitation.
Beginning the recovery process, we put users through an inpatient detox program. It’s here that the substance abuser halts all drug and alcohol use and detoxifies their mind and body. This stage is the most brutal and is recommended to be done with professional supervision to manage withdrawal symptoms. Physical dependency can make this a painful process, and emotional stress can be damaging too.
But that’s why we’re here. We help drug addicts get off drugs and help them rehabilitate.
Our inpatient treatment approach is a holistic one where we find and fix all foundational imbalances. We identify environmental, genetic, and psychological factors to evaluate each patient for individual treatment programs.
There are many treatment options out there today, be we pride ourselves on our unique approach to addiction therapy. We offer a mix of a traditional, scientifically-proven addiction model and evidence-based holistic methods.
Our goal is to promote healing. We heal physical and psychological imbalances through various personal and group therapies such as guided meditation, creative art therapies, aromatherapy, yoga, and mind-body therapies.
One type of mind-body therapy we uniquely offer is Reiki. Reiki is a form of energetic healing that works with all types of treatment. It’s an Eastern healing modality that has more recently found its way to the western world. Reiki targets the body’s life force energy (chi) and is thought to bring internal balance and breakthrough blockages the mind and body have developed.
As we work to bring balance into our patient’s lives, we see that they are more able to face real-world challenges without drugs or alcohol. This internal balance can also be seen to reduce stress and pain and bring optimism and hope. We believe this gives our patients a higher chance for long term sobriety.
